ran 12 miles

Ran 12 Miles – It’s a sacrifice to wake up every Saturday at 4:30am to go running. But it’s a small sacrifice compared to what cancer patients must go through.

Even though I have not made it to all the practices, I’ve ran enough miles to feel prepared to run 13.1 miles in January 27th in the ING Half Marathon in Miami. I used to run for fun, more than 2 ½ years ago. The most miles I did was 9 miles. But I never checked my time, my pace or my heart rate. I just ran. Well, I always had to walk a little in between.

When I had to do the 8 miles in practice I was a little nervous, I’m not going to lie. But it helps so much to have a team motivating you. People around you that are giving their best to make it until the end. And people waiting for you at the finish line.

Thankfully, I did the 8 miles and ended in pretty good shape. I felt like I could have kept going, which made me feel motivated and super excited for the race.

Ran 12 Miles

When it was time to do ran 12 miles, of course I was more nervous. I had never done 12 miles in my life!

The day before that Saturday, I kicked a table by mistake and couldn’t put my running shoes on. So, I missed practice and felt like #$%& because I thought it would be impossible to run 12 miles on my own, without other people running beside me and/or motivating all of us that are part of the team.

ING Half Marathon (13.1 miles)

On Sunday morning, it looked like it was going to rain but I managed to go out and ran 6 miles and pushing myself made it to 8. At 8 miles, thought, NO WAY! I’m this far, with 4 more I’ll do the 12. So I finished at 12.1 miles!
I would have felt so mad at myself if I hadn’t done it because now it’s a race within myself to reach the goal I set.

I felt a funny pain in my knees and feet that I have never felt before. Well, I had never run 12 miles before so, that was not strange. I put some ice and slept like a baby. The next day I woke up like new. That’s when I realized how much stronger physically and mentally I have become. And it feels good. Even better when it’s for a good cause.

Thank you to everyone who has supported with donating for the patients with cancer. I’m positive that most of you are affected directly or indirectly by this disease.
