Started her modeling and acting career at the age of 16 walking runways and doing theatre in Panama. She paused to gain her Bachelor in International Business at the Santa Maria La Antigua University in Panama City.
In early 2009 she was selected to participate in the Miss Panama Beauty Pageant, where she made it as 1st runner up and won the awards for “Best Runway” and “Best Body.” Also this year she signs a contract with the international agency Wilhelmina and moves to the City of Miami.
Some of the clients and designers Maria has worked within the five years she has been living in Miami are Agua Bendita, Aldo, Alfaparf, AT&T, Toyota, Christian Audigier, Cosmopolitan, Dunkin Donuts, Guess, Jaime Luna, Jennifer Lopez, Leonisa, Luli Fama, Miller Lite, Movistar, Nelly, Nicolita, Panasonic, Pantene, Pitbull, Poko Pano, Roberto Cavalli, Starbucks, True Religion, TV Offer, among others. She has also filmed several short films and appeared as one of the lead girls in Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull’ music video “Liv It Up” which currently has over 165 million views.
She has participated in the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Miami for 5 consecutive years and appeared in magazines like Blush Magazine, Ellas Magazine, Conexiones, Auno, Vanidades and Cosmopolitan. Also has had speaking roles in the American TV series Burn Notice, The Glades and Ballers and in Spanish soap operas including Eva Luna at Univision, Aurora, Alguien Te Mira, El Fantasma de Elena, Eva La Trailera at Telemundo, and co-hosted Univision’s game show “El Gran Show”.
While in Miami she got inspired to create her own handmade jewelry line. She always had a passion for design and loved fashion so accessories became an obvious way to start her brand.
This is how MLPIECES was born, which means “Pieces by Maria Luisa Pretelt” and it’s for the edgy, rebellious and fashion-driven person.
Feeds her design drive with inspirations from people, music and fashion. Each pair of earrings, each bracelet, and necklace, is carefully handcrafted to ensure each one is beautiful and unique. Her unique collections are highly influenced by her personal style, characterized by the juxtaposition between two contrasting elements: sweet and edgy.
