It is very important to wash your fruits and veggies before eating them. Almost no food is 100% free of pesticides (yes, even organic foods have pesticides).

What is a pesticide?

Pesticide is a substance used for destroying insects or other organisms harmful to cultivated plants or to animals. Pesticides are meant to control pests, including weeds.

There is a lot of evidence that links exposure to pesticides to chronic deseases as cancer and diabetes, neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson, Alzheimer and ALS. Birth defects and reproductive disorders, asthma and more.

A lot of people think that organic foods are grown and produced without pesticides. Well, that is not right. They do have pesticides because they are also face with weeds, insects and diseases, although many of them are banned from the organic agriculture, so it is a better option no matter what.

Conventional farmers are allowed to use 900 synthetic pesticides and organic farmers are allowed to use only 25 synthetic pesticides.

Effective ways to clean veggies and fruits from pesticides are:

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • Cold running water: removes 9 out of 12 pesticide residues from some forms of produce
  • Salt Water: 10% salt water for 2o minutes is very effective
  • Vinegar Water: for 20 minutes removes bacteria and pesticides
  • Baking Soda Water: most effective way to remove pesticides
